This is a quick trip from your beach resort to these nearby parks for 3 fun days of wildlife discoveries. Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a privately-owned reserve that offers visitors over 50 species of large mammals like lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, and zebra. Plus, waterbuck, gazelle, impala, dik-dik, and 300 species of birds while Tsavo East National Park is immense with a rustic, craggy charm. You can find Africa’s “big five” here along with hundreds of other species. This is the home of the famous Tsavo lions – almost 700 of them! The other big cats are here as well as Duiker, eland, hyena, hartebeest, jackal, mongoose and dozens more and to top it off it is home to the famous red elephants.

Pick up from your accommodation for the drive to Tsavo East National Park, takes approximately 4 to 5 hours. Arrive in time for lunch. Check-in and rest of the afternoon spent at leisure. Overnight stay at camp.

Early morning game drives: We'll be up with the rising sun and the first stirring of the animals! This is the best way to view the awakening savannah and wildlife as it emerges into the new day. Be ready for the adventure of the “hunt”. After this first game drive, we’ll be hunting for a hearty safari breakfast at our accommodation. Later, check out from the camp, but the animal spotting isn’t over. We’ll have our final game drive as we depart the park. We may see the Aruba Dam and Mudanda Rock, two well-known watering holes, where thousands of animals come to drink. On our journey back to the coast, we’ll stop for lunch en route to Mombasa. Drop off at your accommodation of choice. End of Safari.

Early morning game drive before returning to camp for breakfast. 

Departure after breakfast for transfer back to the station for train ride back to Nairobi.

The elephants in Tsavo East are famously known as the red elephants of Tsavo, as they wallow and spread their body with dust, the color of the soil at Tsavo National Park is red, thus their name.

For 9 months in 1898, two lions terrorized the southern Kenyan region of Tsavo, killing as many as 135 people by one account. Although the almost mythic tale has spawned three movies, people still debate the final death toll.

The large amounts of iron oxide in the soil in Tsavo gives it, and the elephants, their distinctive color.

"Tsavo" means "Place of slaughter"
